When you first see an Image speaker you can't help but be impressed by the high quality cabinets and the mitred joints formed from 45-degree cuts to maximise the joining glue line. This is such an expensive and time-consuming construction method that few manufacturers will even contemplate it.

Below the beautiful real wood veneer exterior is arguably the best grade high-density fibreboard available.

Unlike the variable density MDF commonly found overseas, the manufacturing process, the New Zealand grown wood used, and the desire for New Zealand timber companies to compete strongly in international markets means we have the perfect material made right here in New Zealand.

Because most loudspeaker companies do not build their own enclosures some important features are often overlooked. It is not unusual to find hot glues employed to speed up the manufacturing process, especially when wooden boxes are fitted with sculptured plastic baffles or other dissimilar materials.

At Image though we take great pride in cutting and assembling each enclosure by hand in our factory. Liberal amounts of wood glue seeps in to every joint to lock the cabinets together. They are then left undisturbed until the glue reaches maximum strength. By using these traditional methods of construction plus internal bracing and sand filled cavities we create cabinets with the structural integrity necessary to minimise any possible 'cabinet character'. Time consuming, but this is at the heart of what makes Image unique.

Dacron, bonded acetate fibre and similar materials are normally used in sheet form to absorb the internal acoustic energy in the majority of bass and midrange enclosures. Even inexperienced people can quickly position pre-cut pieces.

Unfortunately these convenient materials are normally placed on or near the internal walls but have a limited effect because the velocity of sound there is low.

New Zealand is world renown for the quality of wool fleece that is grown and processed here, and the high absorption co-efficient of carded wool makes it the natural choice to control and absorb the unwanted energy in speaker cabinets.

At Image we are very fortunate to have this ideal material so readily available and so every Image speaker is filled with varying densities of wool, placed in cabinet areas where it is most effective. The result is obvious.

Clear, defined sound.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
All Image speakers require an extensive run-in period before they perform at their best.

It is very important to know whether a pair you intend to audition have been played for a minimum of forty hours by your Image dealer. Most times, they will not be adequately run-in.

New Image speakers straight out of the packaging have a tendency to be slightly forward in the midrange and lack the expected warmth and fullness in the bass response Image is renown for.

This is quite normal and is a function of the loudspeaker suspension which, when new, is very stiff and non-compliant.

Though it's difficult to give a time frame, expect forty to sixty hours of use before you'll notice a marked improvement in the overall sound quality. Even after this time though, expect your Image speakers to get better and better. Bass is more dynamic and extended. Midrange is more natural and lifelike, and there's an apparent air and ease to the overall sound.
